melissa k smith: background
An architect and urban researcher from Michigan, USA, now based in Ahmedabad, India, I hold Master degrees in architecture and city and regional planning from the University of California, Berkeley.
I received the John K. Branner Fellowship in 2010, for that year traveled the world to look at the way people adapt, shift and change the modern city experiments of the mid-century. This blog was my main link while on the road. Posted as the project developed, these insights into the transformative capacity of people occupying a planned environment have formed the base for my current practice and research endeavors.
I am presently practicing with Sachin Bandukwala as partners in banduksmithstudio, a design and research practice in Ahmedabad, and teaching in the planning faculty at CEPT University. I welcome any comments, suggestions or ideas of collaboration!
